I'm going to art class and I want the best. I wanted a home device so I bought an X-acto. I wanted a portable one for class. But after reading all the positive reviews about Carl I bought it for home use and to prepare pencils for class. Firstly the Royal DOES NOT ALLOW THE PENCIL TO TURN and as you can see in the photo (the pencil is on the back) it has a nice long point. The front is an M+R that creates a devastating edge but is slightly shorter. The middle is X-acto, which is good but not great. These are cheap Ticonderoga 3H just to try out the units AND NOT A SINGLE POINT WILL BE BROKEN AFTER SHARPENING. But then I didn't try to break them either, just my usual pulling pressure, but I felt like they could all be crushed if held at a lower angle. I hope it helps. Pencil snob in sunny Florida.
