Anyone who thinks they have a problem with hard water in an aquarium quickly and without problems (loss of fish) the care of the aquarium must be reconsidered. Rapid changes of any kind can quickly kill your fish. This product works slowly, which is best for the health of your aquarium. After many years of using very hard well water in my aquarium and a lot of research. Eventually it turned out that the water was so hard that the PH skyrocketed and couldn't be adjusted. I lost many of my fish in the aquarium. The process involved replacing the pods, charging them (soaking them in salt water for a few days), and putting the pods back in the filter. I've also used distilled water (yes, zero hardness) for frequent partial water changes. The combination saved our remaining fish. This product has come to the rescue. I had to use several of these (five) for my 55 gallon tank. After a few months of use in our canister filter, our PH is now perfect. Highly recommended
