Bought at the end of summer without an insert. In early October I started using the lining of my jacket with a sweater underneath and was sweating. it was 35 degrees outside and i was really warm with a balaclava and a sweater underneath. It's quite light compared to other jackets I've bought from Amazon before and was quickly returned as it was too bulky. the padding is not noticeable, but appears to be of higher quality and overall it is a very comfortable jacket.
