These aren't the best linen sheets in the world. This is linen grown in France, but that in no way means that the linen is processed, milled or woven in France. Just a note. Accordingly, these sheets appear to be a little more polished/finished than more expensive linen sheets that are made entirely in Europe. Why? It has to do with processing methods, the cost/legality/impact of those methods, as well as general quality control, cost, etc., as well as how much they bleach and what kind of look consumers want. My love for the coarse flax fibers of the historic process is probably NOT what other consumers have taken to heart! As someone who has worked with linen from linen to finished woven products, I can admit that I wouldn't tell by touching it was 100% linen. They have a silky feel, a bit like mercerized cotton, but without the stiffness and heaviness I'm used to from fresh, unwashed linen. They're even silkier and lighter than most linen/tencel clothing fabrics I've come across lately. To be honest, in the case of sheets, that's good! What to look out for: The threads are large and uneven. That's cool! The unkempt look is very trendy and very pretty. Large threads make a thick fabric that is still transparent. They are transparent due to the fragility of the fabric. If you pull on a tightly woven cotton sheet in all directions, it will rarely tear. They will be like any looser fabric. It lets them drape and feels great. There is no rigidity. Very soft. Opacity makes men think there is NO clear, tight barrier between you and what you have on your mattress. I suspect if you had a blue mattress or a very yellow mattress pad it would show through along with any texture like a terry cover or similar. So be careful about this. You are of great value. Almost all French Linen sheets that come out now are exactly the same sheets or at least come from the same factories. The various reviews are most likely just quality control issues, SEO shenanigans, and the like. So there is no point in paying triple for another set of the same Chinese linens. So the value is good. Hence four stars. Really a star because while these are fine sheets for the price, they are not as thick and durable as higher quality linen sheets. The seams on the pillowcases are poorly sewn and uneven. I really can't afford the finest linen towels, so I'll have to settle for that. 100% cotton sheets of any quality are becoming rarer and, frankly, I adore linen for nothing. Polyester sheets and microfiber sheets wear out terribly, don't remove stains well, and make my skin miserable. The bedding is just wonderful. And these will fit. They look a little too finished (how else do you get crisp white linen?), they're thin, but oh my god I love them. This was a good test to brighten up my husband's linen bedding as I will be needing more natural linens in the future! I live in a VERY cold and dry climate. This is the first time I've used them in winter and they're great. They tolerate perspiration better than cotton (though not as well as less "pearlized" linen), but don't freeze. Less pearly/shiny/silky linen tends to swell a lot when wet, making it very moisture wicking. It's not quite as good. Great compromise for me (who is always too warm) and husband (who is often too cold but sweaty). We're comfortable and just feel luxurious compared to harsh cotton sheets or cheap polyamide blends. And of course very trendy.
