Review on πŸ’ͺ Apevia CAPTAIN550 ATX Power Supply with Sleek All Black Cables by Pete Brown

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Inexpensive power supply that meets my general computing and light gaming needs

This is a fairly lightweight device with a very quiet blue LED fan. It arrived in excellent condition and was well packaged. Inside the box was a 110VAC cord, a power adapter, a pouch with 4 screws to mount the unit, and some paperwork. The bundled cables are all black in my opinion but sleeveless or properly bundled as it is a loose group of individual wires with only two zip ties attached to group each cable bundle. I placed a 4" tie every 3" on each wire harness to prevent a rat's nest of all the loose wires running throughout the assembly. It looks a lot neater now, even in a box with minimal cable management features like the one I'm using for this project, the Rosewill FBM-01 Mini Tower. I'm still waiting for the FM2+ MoBo to arrive to finish building the project. However, I have previously tested this power supply with a power supply tester and all the output lines are working properly. I will provide more information when the build is complete and fully burned. All is looking good at the moment so it looks like I won't have to return this PSU to Revain based on my preliminary testing. Here is the tester I use for pre-testing. -Check power supply I bought it after installing dead power supply, better pre-check than disassembly. =1&keywords=power+supply+tester+for+atx%2Fsata%2Fhdd&qid=1597075680&sprefix=power+supply+test%2Caps%2C228&sr=8-4EDIT Bought FM-2 Mo-Bo and installed A10-5700 APU and Asus 750 -TI with 8 GB RAM, 128 GB TeamGroup SSD boot drive and 500 GB Seagate data hard drive. I also turned on the DVD burner as I need to get rid of a stack of them. I put everything in a Rosewill FBM-01 case, a little tight without much room for cable management, but it's ok. The system has been working great since it was built on August 18th. Having had no issues throughout the month of assembly in general and the Captain 550 PSU in particular, I am pleased with the PSU's performance so far. If there are any problems in the future, albeit unexpected in this undemanding build, I'll reconsider my review. 2. Editing. It's the end of October and the car is still working perfectly. No BSD shutdown or other jerky behavior. For my use as a secondary computer for web surfing and light gaming, it meets my needs. I wouldn't use it for more demanding video editing or "A" gaming hardware. I use my Ryzen R9 3950 computer for this, but this machine comes in handy when I'm rendering video projects or when Lara Croft kicks ass. Maybe this power supply could do the trick, but why bother to see on a simple computer. If you're building a budget PC, it will likely suit your needs as well.
