Review on 🐠 Aqueon QuietFlow LED PRO Aquarium Power Filter, Size 75: The Best Filtration Solution for Your Large Fish Tank! by Erin Thomas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Louder than I would have liked but did the job until it let me down. (less than a year)

I had one like this for 1 year before it failed me. I have a 55g aquarium with >30 cichlids and have used this HOB plus canister filter to keep the aquarium clean. It worked decently for about 9 months and then suddenly the filter got really loud (I have to say that this filter isn't very quiet to start with, so any amount of "louder" was very undesirable). I've tried finding ways to silence it again, but none of the suggestions seem to work. This includes removing the filter completely and cleaning all accessible surfaces as best you can. Unfortunately, the impeller is not available and cannot be exchanged. After about 3 months of rattling and the noise getting louder and louder, it finally just broke after a short power outage. It no longer pumps water through the filter (but it's also quiet :) ). It's a bit disappointing that it doesn't have a working impeller. It's possible it was just sand, or a rock, or something small that's in the way, but I haven't been able to examine it. Filters need to be changed frequently. For other filters I have and have replaced with (AquaClear) the filters are said to be washed and reused a few times before replacing. It appears to have been built to be replaced frequently. In my case with a tank > 30 cichlids I found it necessary to replace one of the two filters every week (I cleaned the filter from the one I hadn't replaced). In a configuration where this HOB is the only filter, I will remove the entire biofilter each week, but since I have a canister that only contains the biofilter, I felt I could be more aggressive with the HOB. Good thing EVERYONE sells Aqueon filters so you can find replacement filters at Walmart/Target, even some grocery stores.
