Review on Highrock IR Infrared Remote Extender Receiver Emitter Repeater System with Power Adapter by Braden Bowers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simple, cheap and reliable

I needed to control a directv box in another room and this remote extension worked great. I cut off a small transmitter wire and soldered an additional 30 foot of 18 gauge speaker wire to go through the attic and down the wall. The extra length did not affect performance in any way. Long-distance signals are still instant and reliable. This setup works much better than the RF remote/antenna option that Directv sells for their H25 boxes. I have an RF packet on another receiver and it only works about half the time on the first button press. Sometimes I look like a lifeguard using a semaphore to try and find a position where the console will work. I use the included USB power adapter, but you can plug it into any available USB port (TV, cable box, DVR, etc.). If I had to guess which part of the system would fail first, it would probably be the power supply. Luckily almost everyone has a drawer full of these things to replace. Tip: The transmitter LED is very small and designed to be attached directly to the sensor of any device you want to control remotely. Don't expect it to reliably control AV equipment in an entire closet. Several versions of sensor heads are available for this purpose.

Pros
  • High test scores for support and durability
Cons
  • No instructions

This IR repeater does a pretty good job of relaying my Direct TV remote signal ...
