After reading all the horror stories about excessive vibration due to too much shaft run out (shaft runout) on Dewalt, Porter cable etc grinders I have decided to invest some extra money in this Metabo product to replace my defunct Delta bench grinder. While I would love a USA made Baldor grinder, I couldn't justify the $600-$1000 price tag since I'm not trying to make a living from my tools. After unpacking the heavy grinder, the first thing I did was plug it in and turn it on. After reading other reviews I expected it to be high quality and virtually vibration free and that's my experience. There was some vibration and I have to say I was a bit disappointed but thought the vibration was due to the grinding wheels themselves. I pulled the right wheel out and measured the runout to within 0.001" max - well done factory. I put the wheel back on and measured the runout on it at 0.007" - not great but I'll live with that. .Interestingly the grinding wheels are made in Germany while the rest of the machine is made in China. I timed which it took for the mill to come to a complete stop after it was turned off and was amazed when it took over 90 seconds to come to a full stop, I think this is the hallmark of good high inertia bearings of spinning wheels and motors. As others have pointed out the goggles aren't very good - they're a bit small but that's not a problem at all as I always wear a full face mask when sanding. The handguards are too small so I'll look to the secondary market for a better alternative look around.the wheel covers are cast aluminum and quite heavy, another good job for Metabo.I would give this product five stars if di e wheels would be truer, but the wheels can be replaced; However, I can recommend this coffee grinder with a clear conscience.
