Review on DROK DR-US180076 DC Voltage Regulator: 6-40V to 0-32V, 5A Buck Converter for Constant Voltage Current Step Down, Power Supply: 24V 12V to 5V, Adjustable Output by Scott Yenson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well, may require a little more attention from manufacturer

Works well, limiting current and voltage to within 1.5% under various load conditions and open circuit, usually on the high side. the smaller 5A DROK unit, they have different controller logic hardware and I like the control interface better on this unit. At 5A with vertical radiator mounting the control is set in a different order, either voltage or current, adding or subtracting with the left pair of buttons is very easy. As with any offer, it will be disabled if you overspend. I tested with an old laptop PSU, 18.9V, 3.64V, it worked fine up to 17.5V under light load, then there was an almost linear drop to 18.2V. Normal behavior, there is everything OK. There are several components, two microswitches, small inductors, etc. that are soldered crookedly. Some might say it's just for looks, but it's not a good sign when you see a board that seems rushed and hasn't been quality checked by an experienced EE or well trained technician, especially at this price point. Overall it seems to have a good feature set and does the job of being a medium duty CV/CC power source. If I hadn't bought this from Revain I probably wouldn't be buying more when they come into DoA as they are free and painless to return. I'm going to use a bunch of supercapacitors on the load side of this device for the capacitive discharge welder I'm building, so it should turn out decent. I'll update this review if it comes up or something.
