Review on Renewed Garmin Edge 1000 Color Touchscreen 🌈 GPS: Enhanced Navigation at a Fraction of the Cost by Jaymai Alford

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Finally Bike Computer Winner

For the past few years, I've lamented that bike computers are inferior to other consumer electronics, yet cost the same. The Garmin Edge 1000 is no exception to this rule; it still lacks the quality, features and performance of other consumer electronics. But it's much closer than any previous bike computer. I truly believe this is the best bike computer on the market. The bright screen is easy to read in bright sunlight, which automatically dims and even changes color at sunset. For the first Garmin bike computer with a really worthwhile map system that can really help you navigate (before that I only checked the map on my smartphone despite a Garmin Edge 810 on the handlebars). And don't forget, it's unique among cycle computers as a model that remains completely independent of any computer. That doesn't mean you can't use a computer to update firmware or download rides if you want; or smartphone for that matter. But the Edge 1000 can work completely independently when paired with a Wi-Fi connection. It can upgrade itself, download rides, it's grown! Previous models had to be connected to either a computer or a smartphone. He also uses BTLE. Now if you're thinking "My current computer has Bluetooth, what's the difference?" The difference is that BTLE uses a lot less power. This means it drains your Garmin battery less and drains your smartphone battery less. Bluetooth is optional, the device works completely standalone, but Bluetooth adds unique features like real-time tracking and Bluetooth activity uploads (as an alternative to Wi-Fi; which can be useful when you're traveling or in an area without Wi-Fi -Fi located -Fi) and smartphone notifications; Your Garmin Edge 1000 will tell you why your phone is buzzing in your jersey pocket; That means you don't have to distract yourself when you're wondering if it was an important call or if your spouse just texted you complaining that you were late on your bike again. The screen is easy to read and easy to use. with gloves or with sweaty/damp fingers. Better than other models. Neither touchscreen works in the rain, but the Edge 1000 seems to perform better than most. In addition, it is much faster and more responsive than previous models. What about the size? The reason I was so slow to adapt was because I believed other reviewers when they said the Edge 1000 was "the size of a smartphone". It turns out to be pretty smooth. The first time I saw one mounted on a friend's bike I knew it was the perfect size! Not huge and bloated; but definitely big enough to be able to see all the data I want to see at a glance. (Power (3s), NP, HR, Cadence, Speed, Time and Time of Day in my case.) Also other screens can be loaded with up to 10 metrics to show from time to time and they can still be read . during driving. This really is the best bike computer on the market. Maybe the market will improve and soon there will be something new and even better. There are probably cheaper alternatives. But for now, the Garmin Edge 1000 is the flagship bike computer currently on the market.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Good, but not great
