Great introduction to Shun knives

This was the first Shun knife I ever bought and I've been so impressed with it that I've bought more knives since. As others have pointed out, this is a versatile knife, useful for everything from bread and sandwiches to thinly slicing soft fruits and vegetables. I bought it mainly for its ability to thinly slice tomatoes, which makes it excellent. It's fairly heavy for a relatively small knife, and the tall blade helps you maintain control when using it with a cutting board (although it does require a fairly wide slot in the block for storage). Shun, this is a good start. If you decide not to invest in a full set of great knives, it's unique enough that you won't displace a similar knife from another manufacturer. Should you decide to expand and purchase the more traditional Shun Classic Series knives, the overall utility of this knife makes it a great addition to any kit.
