My 8 and 10 year old boys are pretty serious mountain bikers and I wanted to help protect them. This helmet really protects your little one and is convertible. However, I would be wary of injury in the event of a strong impact. After about a week of use, the strap on one of them started to come loose from the helmet (styrofoam). It clicked back for a while, but didn't instill too much confidence. The other helmet lost the buckle from the strap as it was a bit flimsy. As I write this a few months later, I'm wondering why I didn't just spend money on better helmets. Your heads are worth it! My 13 year old daughter has a beautiful Giro Switchblade and I think we need to go down that route.
