Despite frequent water changes I have had many problems with high nitrate levels for quite some time. I came across this product after searching Google for ways to lower nitrates and decided to give it a try. I have noticed that there have been several comments about this product making the aquarium water cloudy, but I saw a comment that the bottle should be shaken and swirled before adding water to the aquarium. I've done this and haven't had a problem with cloudy water and my fish seem a lot more alert over the past month. In addition, the test strips show a stable reduction in nitrates in the water. Don't expect this to happen overnight. And you need to be consistent with your water changes when using a gravel cleaner. I have a 20 gallon aquarium and I usually change 20-25% of the water weekly. I shake the bottle well and add 2 capfuls of EasyBalance to about 1 gallon of water. Shake well and add the rest of the water. I tried stirring with a full 5 gallons of water in the bucket and the tank water got a little cloudy. You won't get the same good mix if you stir a full bucket of water instead of a small amount. I recommend this product to improve the health of your aquarium.
