Review on Kayak Hoist Lift: Garage Ceiling Mount with 2 Pulley System - Heavy-Duty 125 Pound Capacity - Ideal for Bicycle, Paddleboard, Canoe, and Ladder Storage Tool by Antonio Bacon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Serves its purpose, but could be better.

Advantages: Sturdy metal construction. Works well with kayak lift. Cons: As mentioned, the rope isn't the best and has already started to wear out after just a few uses. At some point I'll probably have to replace it. Should be more nylon and less cotton. The instructions were written by a fifth grader from China. Watch the video if you need help. It comes with 4 screws which are shown in the instructions but nowhere mentions how or why to use them. I think they are for when you need to install brackets in concrete. The strap is NOT adjustable as advertised. I switched them to ratchet straps. They would slide off immediately, leaving no way to adjust the height. I wanted my kayaks to be as high as possible so we could park our cars underneath. The instructions say the brackets can be installed if your joists go the other way. NO! The picture in the bracket guide does NOT match what you will actually receive. I've seen others need to use boards that are bolted to their joists, so I did that too. Summary: change your belts (photos 5 and 6); Use a bungee cord or other strap to keep the straps from slipping (Figs. 5 and 6); If necessary, use a board to secure it with bolts, and then attach a hoist to it (Figs. 2 and 4). The brake works well but can also be an issue when lowering the kayak. You must hold one rope (by releasing the brake) while lowering the other rope. This is how one page goes down. You'll understand in a few times. Also, I originally hoped to put two kayaks on a lift. It is rated for weights over 100 pounds. However, you just can't lift that much weight on a small rope. And you might even want to wear gloves while using it. If you lower the rope, it will go through your hands and can burn you a bit. That works too, but I think you can do better now with the right straps and maybe later with a better rope.
