Review on Gibraltar SC SH Nylon Stick Holder by Chris Chincuanco

What it does, it does it well

I bought one of these (red) about 10 or 12 years ago. It was widely used, including several sticks thrown at it simultaneously from above, which inevitably stressed the seams underneath - and it happened; Recently a few holes formed in the holder along the seam and the sticks started to leak. I bought a new one (this one in black) for my show kit and sewed the old one together for one of my practice kits. The other training set features the signature On-Stage stick holder that is constantly tilting. The angle is a matter of personal preference and I prefer the Gibraltar vertical approach, but admittedly it's not too difficult to make the angle adjustable from these manufacturers. Another review mentioned the difficulty in retracting the cleats due to their movement during play. I think it's a hi-hat adjustment problem. None of my hi-hats swing enough to move the sticks. Adjust the legs so that they are all the way down. Heck, even my open drink sits in a holder attached to the hi-hat stand. No spills. Therefore, if the unthinkable (and inevitable) happens and you lose your stick in the middle of a song, you have a spare in one of them. I keep three in a holder. I turn two of them away from me and one towards me and one is immediately available if I lose a hand. I don't even think about catching it on the way down, but quickly pull the spare suction cup from its holster - well, the mount - and continue on without a hit. What would I do to improve it? ? Well, I already mentioned the adjustable incline and maybe a little more durable material. Again, I can't complain about 10-12 years of reliable service.

Pros
  • Gibraltar Stick Holders attaches to any stand
Cons
  • Slightly dented
