These are very functional mouse pads but open the cellophane wrapper outside and let them air out during the day. They smell very strongly of chemicals when you first open the packaging. I don't have a very good sense of smell, but WOW someone more sophisticated than me might be alarmed. After a few days they got a "new tennis shoe smell" but when I first opened them it was more like "burning car tires". But mouse pads are nice. The bottom is very grippy and my mouse glides just right over the top.
