When I tried on the mahogany blank and removed the screws I found that the Blue-Kote weather resistant coating was the most the threads were worn out. Tried again on a different piece of wood, again mahogany, and got the same results. It seems to me that rust begins as soon as the tree gets wet in the rain. It is now possible to see and remove the rust on the screw head, but I have no way of knowing that if the rust is hidden in the wood the screw will fail until the rust stain migrates to the surface. Tried the same test with another brand and the yellow coating didn't come off. See the photos for two types of new and used screws. In addition, the manufacturer must state how "400% more rust resistance than galvanized screws" is expressed in salt spray tests lasting for hours. In my experience, galvanizing is the same as electro-galvanizing, it will rust in a few months. I am about 300 meters from the sea.
