Heavy duty, easy to shake off sand, for 1-2 people, sand seeps through outer edges
Medium material is hard which prevents sand from penetrating. There are tiny holes around the edges, similar to a sand sieve, through which the sand falls onto the edges. So it works as long as the sand doesn't get in the middle. I should have taken a larger size as it is only comfortable for two people. I was looking for something that would allow sand to seep through the material anywhere on the comforter/mat but had a hard time finding that. It's definitely durable and easy to clean/shake off the sand. So it worked really well for us.
