The set of five knives offered at this price point is an impressive achievement and this set is as sharp as it is pleasant to use, impressive too, especially considering the price. The set contains five knives and together these five cover a large area and are basically everything you need to set up your kitchen for food preparation, including knives, from cleaning to peeling, cutting and trimming meat. Obviously these knives aren't going to look or feel like an expensive German (or whatever) set, but they offer good handling and a nice sharp edge. The blades are marbled black and it's a bit different or unexpected you might say, but they work great even if they look a little odd. Time will tell if the paint, coating or anything else rubs off on the blades or something else. I guess as long as the knives stay sharp it doesn't matter. The plastic pens are lightweight and don't exactly scream "quality" but they are comfortable to hold and I have no complaints about them. If this set cost hundreds of dollars it would be a different matter entirely, but for a budget set the pens are fine. This is a great set for anyone on a budget, for a young person furnishing their first apartment, for an extra set in the kitchen, or to outfit a kitchen in a lake house, cottage or country house.
