I thought it was plastic or wood, mostly felt. I was worried but figured out what the heck was and put it together; The plastic joints are pretty strong, I used a hammer to gently hammer them into the bars. It is very easy to assemble. Pros: Lightweight, durable, easy to assemble, hides shoes/clutter, shelves are long; no dividers inside so no need to stuff stuff in drawers, big and long to fit a lot of stuff, velcro keeps the flap open for daily use, the top is strong enough to fit some items. Cons: you can't choose the height of the shelves, it's obviously felt up close, I'm worried that after a while the stretched felt shelves will sag under the weight of what's on them, the top isn't strong enough, to hold something fragile, like a vase of paints, because it wobbles with use and is not a perfectly flat surface. There are no legs either, so it just sits on the carpet with plastic joints. I have it in the hallway and it fits well; I think it would be great for multipurpose use but it is definitely an indoor light. It is worn wet or outside as it is all fabric. I also wouldn't rely on it to store heavy items like laundry detergent or kitchen utensils. But shoes or hats, that's fine.
