Review on πŸ”ͺ The Legendary Arctic Ulu Knife, Perfect for Alaska by Charles Phillips

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Spicy but kid-friendly and good for chopped veggies! I wish the wood was better quality.

One of my mother's brothers lived in Alaska for a time when he was young. He came home with a bunch of these knives for everyone in his family, so I grew up with an ulu knife in the kitchen. These are AWESOME knives and they cut modern foods as well as whale oil. Here are the highlights (and one downside): * SUITABLE FOR KIDS: Ulu knives are particularly good for children as the handle keeps your hand off the blade and also gives you enough leverage to make a safe cut. As a kid, I used the family ooloo to cut pancakes into perfect little squares. Now my family is doing the same! * GREAT KNIFE FOR WORK: Great for its versatility, the knife holds up well even after prolonged use. I particularly like using it for chopping veggies for soups and pico de gallos, as the rounded edge makes it the perfect tool to rock the blade back and forth and adjust the angle until all the veggies are chopped up. * POOR QUALITY WOOD: While I'm an unabashed fan of Ulu knives, I wish the wood they used on this model was of a higher quality. After a very short time, the wood began to wear out and crack at the edges (see close-up of the handle). It's not torn and seems to be holding up as is, but I'm concerned it might not last as long as I'd like. Luckily the blade holds up well. All in all I still love Ulu knives and recommend this model as a good value model. However, if you value high quality, you might want to look for the next price range model with better wood quality. Enjoy!

Pros
  • The blade is made of stainless steel and has a large wooden handle that is comfortable to hold. This is a great tool for singles or people with weak hands.
Cons
  • Weak sentence
