A must have if you shoot outdoors

The Canon DM-100 is a great accessory, I use this mic with my Canon VIXIA HF200. I had a horrible experience recording an outdoor wedding where a slight breeze made the audio almost unusable. With this microphone and windscreen, wind noise is SIGNIFICANTLY reduced and voices sound much clearer. One thing to note is that the microphone doesn't completely eliminate all wind noise, especially when the wind is blowing fast. This mic is very sensitive and can pick up conversations from 15-20 feet away without much trouble. Without the fluffy windsock, the mic itself is 3 inches high, 5 inches long, and has a 3/4 inch shaft diameter. When installed, it is almost as long as the camera, but quite light. It weighs only 2.7g. ounces (excluding socks). When connected to the camera, the built-in stereo microphones are disabled. The microphone has three settings: 120 degrees, 90 degrees and shot gun. I usually leave it at 120 and capture everything in the field outside of the viewcam (as well as outside of the field of view). The shotgun is perfect when you want to record a single speaker and block out the surrounding noise. This mic has one great feature that I haven't seen in any of the reviews: it's mounted on a base that moves slightly, about +/- 7 degrees in either direction. This reduces noise when the camera moves and prevents an excessive load on the microphone bar if you accidentally hit it. For many outdoor shoots, this accessory is a must because it makes outdoor footage USEFUL because even with wind reduction enabled in the camera, wind noise can ruin the entire clip. While this accessory doesn't come cheap, it will make your shots that much better. I recommend this accessory to anyone who shoots outdoors a lot and wants to make better quality home videos.
