If you have Balsam Hill wood and LEDs instead of incandescent bulbs, they will work well. I just replaced a few lightbulbs with this product and it worked and brought the cord back to life. They don't have a candle cover over the LED bulb, but I couldn't find another replacement. They work, a bit brighter, but this is an option that will light up your Christmas tree for about 12 cents a bulb change. If a garland has gone out and several bulbs in that garland are unlit, each bulb should have two circuits, one for the bulb and one for the power to carry on to the next bulb or the rest of the garland. If you try to start a string, don't assume all the bulbs are bad. Keep changing the lightbulbs on the tree line until all the lights are on and don't throw away the changed lightbulbs. Once the filament lights up, reinsert the bulbs you pulled out until the filament goes out. This is a lightbulb with poor design and circuitry. There can be more than one so keep plugging it in and if the filament burns out again it's another bad bulb.
