I was looking for a good, reasonably priced full head angled spotting scope for my new 3.5lb Vortex Diamondback HD 20-60x85mm . It has a nice 2" base with a 3/8" hole for better tripods (and a 1/4 insert). It's made from beautifully formed, high-quality aluminum and is just right for carrying in the field with my Manfrotto 190xBPro tripod. The new Vortex Diamond backplate has a built in arca swiss style mounting plate, I didn't want to use an adapter so I found this unit with a nice built in arca swiss plate and a 3 inch QD plate. The fewer adapters, the better. The Diamondback has a 1/4" hole under the built in Arca plate for use with Manfrotto plates or a standard 1/4 threaded tripod mount if needed. I wanted something substantial for my heavy duty scope without the need for additional adapters or panels, this device is just the thing.
