Review on πŸ“Ά Moultrie Mobile MV2 Field Modem: Enhancing Remote Wildlife Monitoring with Verizon Network Connectivity by Rolando Munoz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Overall very good but not perfect

Pros: It's pretty good for the money. Considering our property is 4.5 hours away that helps us get information on the money when we can't check the CCTV cards. Setup is a bit wonky, but I'd still say it's easy (I'm a software developer though, so the technology is easier for me). The app does what I expect and I haven't had any issues with it not working. As long as the batteries are good, I'll get my photos when I expect them. Cons: I really only have 2, although I'll take a little long to explain. First, battery life. I understand it could be battery related but I've been using top quality Energizer Lithium AA batteries as I do with all my cameras and it's still draining them faster than I'd like. I think I had about 2 months of life out of the first and it was set to only connect twice a day. Not critical, but a bit backwards compared to today's high-end cameras. Which brings me to another small minus. When it boots up, the camera connected to it will not take photos. It doesn't seem like much until you realize that setting it to something other than the fewest connections/downloads per day is the only way out. It would be too risky to upload photos immediately if it then uploaded photos of a fallow deer or a small deer and then during the upload after 30 seconds everything that would trigger the camera would not be photographed (e.g. adult deer passes unnoticed). However, uploading only 2 times a day is not bad and removes the ethical dilemma of property hunting if the camera and modem are working. This is because if set to 2 times a day, it will upload every 12 hours. So if you set it to 1:30pm, you will get photos to the app at 1:30pm and 1:30am everyday. Overall it's pretty reliable and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to preserve photos digitally, but it's not enough to earn a perfect 5-star rating.
