The material is really soft and comfortable. My son is only 81/2 but he is a bit taller and very athletic with a bigger butt so I gave him a 10-12, perfect. They are great for everyday wear and football/basketball/baseball games. They are longer than regular boxer shorts, just what we needed. I reordered very quickly. We still have a pair of fancy compression shorts/briefs - good for game day - but they're too expensive to have more than a pair (given how my kid wears clothes) and they don't fit everyone. Day. They are more than worth their price.
