The short, curved blade is just like your grandmother's big paring knife. I buy Rada knives with black resin handles because I put them in the dishwasher. Like Grandma's grip, they are available with aluminum eyelets, but they must be washed by hand as the washing-up water quickly oxidizes the aluminium. If you choose a brushed aluminum handle, hand wash, and store in the paper sleeve that comes with the knife, you can probably pass it on to your grandchildren. If you don't have time for this, choose a black resin pen and you will still get many years of useful service from this wonderful product. They seem to stay sharp forever - don't try to sharpen them or you'll most likely ruin them. Best of all are the best in PARING - the best apple and potato peeler I've ever used.
