This is the best knife sharpener I have ever owned. I've used wet rocks, poles and the like. This setting is perfect! Made my everyday gear sharp enough to shave with. My tomahawk is sharp enough to cut paper cleanly. I've used it on everything from kitchen knives, my wife's ulu knife to hunting knives, axes and even a mowing knife. I haven't had to change belts yet. My son wanted his souvenir knife sharpened and it gave plenty of sharpness even to this soft blade. One thing I would probably be careful with cheap blades. You will lose a lot of metal. I even sharpened my butter knife for fun. Contains 3 different straps. Green is for heavy grinding to develop an edge profile. Red medium for sharpening into a cutting edge. Gray is suitable for grinding. If you want to literally shave, you may need a leather cord to trim the edge. Did this with my fillet knife and it cut through the fish like hot wire through butter. No need for $300 knife sharpeners. Get this. He had a new hunting knife. BAD Metal and very boring. Razor sharp in just 5 minutes. I'm having so much fun I tell all my friends to bring their own knives :)
