I replaced this, made sure I followed the instructions to restore the air gap in my water heater and it still cried as the heater neared max temp. I spoke to my RV repairman and he mentioned whether or not there is an air gap. He noted that one trick is that if you open the valve to check or fiddle with them before tightening them, they will never work immediately afterwards. and lick often. That seemed suspicious to me but I sent the part back for another, tried again and surprisingly no leaks. So, just in case when you get it, don't open the valve and play with it, just put it on and you're done.
