Review on 🐠 Enhance Your Aquarium: EHEIM Classic External Canister Filter with Media by David Burrell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Specification update required

Update: I hate this thing.1. Priming is a pain. sometimes it sometimes doesn't work. There are no baskets so only the materials and filters are there which makes maintenance much more difficult as the filters are down first. The bottom intake pipe is very fragile and mine is already leaking a bit4. The tubes are incredibly stiff and don't flex, I'm not even a fan of the green color they chose, black would have been much more stylish5. for the amount of "features" you get, it's quite expensive. My biggest problem is the service. The biomedium provided is made up of small balls, but you'll have to dump them all out to clean the filter pads at the bottom. This is not efficient at all as the pads will need to be changed frequently while the biocarrier will likely last much longer (unless it gets clogged). What they should do is have a basket and stacking system so you can take out the biocarrier, change the pads and put the basket right in. I'm looking for the new Fluval 07 series, so many useful features that just make more sense. I've always used HOB or internal filters due to their lower cost, but chose to use these for a cleaner look inside the tank. The filter is quiet and efficient, but the preparatory work and maintenance are a little more difficult. Pains. The filter has no baskets, so the materials float freely on top of each other. Getting to the bottom and deleting some free media gets a little messy. Filling can also be tricky as it does NOT have a fill button unlike many other canisters. The hose is also very stiff. They should be attached to the 2 small plastic in/out holes. As for durability, I'm not sure. The bottom inlet sticks out at a 90 degree angle and I can imagine people easily snapping it off accidentally during maintenance or when moving the filter. When the filter is full it will be quite heavy, so take care to position the tubes and plan where you will place it. before powering on and completing setup. Removing the top that houses the engine is also a chore. There is no easy way other than twist and pull by force. (Tip: When you change the water and try to remove the engine cover, OPEN the valve to release the internal pressure, otherwise it is almost impossible to remove the cover. Then twist and pull slowly.)
