Review on πŸ“ Silverstone FP36B Aluminum 3.5'' Converter Kit by Benjamin Chang

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A simple and economical way to move the rear USB3 ports to the front

Not much to say about this converter. It installs in an open 3.5" drive bay (i.e. where your floppy drive could/was) and it has two high-quality USB cables that run through the case and out the back. . The cables are then connected to the rear USB ports on the motherboard. This type of setup isn't ideal, since cables are constantly coming out of the back of the computer, but this needs to be agreed upon by the motherboard and case manufacturers. . For those of us who don't have built-in USB3 ports on the front, this is a great budget option. Build quality is good and installation took no more than 5 minutes. Even a computer novice should be able to install this if you know how to remove the cover from the computer and use a screwdriver. Now that I have this Silverstone adapter installed I can use my USB3 hard drive and wow - it's 3x faster in HDtouch. Definitely worth it as I am now limited by the speed of the drive and not the USB interface. If you have a board with USB3 ports on the back, take those adapters and bring them to the front of the case where they can actually be used!

Pros
  • Support for two 2.5" hard drive brackets
Cons
  • Available in white only
