In comparison to the whale, this is a vast improvement; the photographs look much sharper, and that's something I really appreciated. A high-quality lens at a reasonable price. It seems like Sigma's 17-50 mm lens is the sole rival, but I went with Tamron because of the focal lengths and have been pleased with my decision so far. The pluses: The focusing speed, aperture, and focal length are all very convenient. The Conspiracy: There is a prominent barrel at the tip, although it is still superior to the whale's. A lack of uniform sharpness across the frame; still an improvement over the whale one. Front focus was only consistently available at the test's short end. From what I've read, the level of sharpness and front-to-back focus required depends on the specific context. I gave macro photography a try, but the general consensus is that the camera isn't cut out for it.
