If you follow Nambe's instructions these coasters will last for decades. The instructions that come with the coasters make it very clear that before using the coasters for the first time, apply mineral oil to the wood, let it sit and then wipe it off. You can purchase the mineral in the over-the-counter section of drug stores and many grocery stores. Be sure to use only mineral oil. I have two sets of these coasters and they have lasted for years with an occasional rub with mineral oil after the first treatment before use. This is what Nambe instructs you to do when you follow the printed instructions that come with the coasters. Mine look just as beautiful as the day they came out of the box.
