This is an amazing wire. It is single strand (not stranded). It has a very thick outer coating that can withstand almost anything. It transmits much better, I had to adjust the signal on my underground dog fence after replacing the 16 gauge stranded wire with this - the signal stretched an additional two feet. I have an acre and a half and it easily transmits a signal around the entire perimeter. A disadvantage, however, is that due to the increased thickness of the coating, the wire will not fit into a cut in concrete or asphalt made with a circular saw (with thick blades special for asphalt or concrete). The incisions need to be widened and that hurts; However, the end result is worth it. The probability of wire breakage or corrosion is almost zero. Just make sure you use a silicone-filled splicing kit to weatherproof the bare ends of the cable. Jim
