Review on Silent Air® X5 Air Pump 2 Outlet by Brittany Williams

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Well made but subjectively quiet

It's very difficult to judge the "quietness" of these pumps since none of us take their readings in decibels. After reading various reviews online, I was happy to finally find a pump for my aquarium that was quieter than what is advertised in the TV room. While I have nothing to fault with this pump as such, I would hardly describe it as "quiet". When the aquarium cabinet is open, the sound of the pump is comparable to the sound of a mini fridge with the compressor switched on. I've tried wearing it over a few things to reduce vibration and therefore noise, but the reality is that even when held in the air it's still not THAT quiet. It's *significantly* quieter than my Tetra Whisper, even with the Tetra on. pretty low setting. It's also a lot more powerful, although my Tetra (I don't remember the exact model) is designed for a larger tank so I don't have to use it at higher settings. All this suggests that everything is fine with this pump. For the quality I would give it a 5; The reason for my 3 is because in my experience there are very few air pumps left these days that are not well built and durable. Within the tank's nominal size, the main reason people choose them is the sound, so I can only give them an "okay" rating. Still on the hunt for the elusive SILENT air pump. Maybe I'll build a small "box" out of an egg crate or some other sound deadening material.
