Review on Park Tool CT 5 Chain Brute by Pedro Curtis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well in sports

Due to some negative feedback of the tool breaking or not working at all I tested it. I had two short chain links from a Shimano and a Connex chain and they broke, ie removed the chain pins, both chains with no problem. It is important to hold the tool firmly. Once the tool was properly aligned (the remover pin was snug against the chain pin), I wrapped my fingers around the V-section of the tool and rested my thumb on it (as shown). When I first tried the tool it didn't work, as soon as I switched grips the EZ did! Removing the pin requires some force, so make sure the bike chain is on the outer bracket when removing the pin and on the inner bracket (next to the handle) when installing the new pin. Driving gravel and there's nothing worse than breaking a chain on a forest track and no bars on your phone. I have a small saddlebag that now contains this tool, a compact quick connect tool, several quick links of various sizes and a couple of chain pins. This tool fits perfectly in this bag.

Pros
  • Shelf for loosening tight connections
Cons
  • Some bugs
