Review on πŸ”Œ Seagate Expansion 3TB Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive (STEA3000400) in Black by Ada Samoraj ᠌

I didn't like it, I don't recommend buying.

I made a disappointing conclusion for myself: the disk is not suitable either for archives of important information (due to frequent software failures), or for processing heavy files or working with large data, and everything else starts very slowly. In my case, this disk is simply useless. Recording technology, sort of like SMR, which apparently allows you to increase the recording density and cram 4GB into such a small case. SMART data, via smartctl: smartctl -d sat -i /dev/sdc smartctl 6.5 2022-01-24 r4214 [x86_64-linux-42022.0-38-generic] (local build) Copyright (C) 2022-16, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www. Pros
  • It works quite fast, the upper limit of the write speed that I observed is more than 120 MiB / s. Quiet enough. Interface SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (not 3.0, 3.0 Gb/s like most of my WD My Passport and WD Elements) Honest 4 TB capacity.
Cons
  • The dimensions are slightly larger than the usual external 2.5" drive (the same WD My Passport, Elements), but it does not catch the eye, it does not create any inconvenience. Addendum, with a downgrade, which has to be written after a period of use in real conditions: After some time, serious shortcomings appeared. So, when writing large amounts of information or writing a certain number of heavy files, the speed drops to 1.5-3 MiB / s., In fact, the process has to be stopped. Already several times there was a problem with the partition table, which had to be restored using standard Windows tools. It seems that only for a while, the disk can work quickly, after which it "runs out of steam" and loses speed. The partition system used is NTFS.
