I have had Suunto Core for over 6 YEARS. In 6 years of daily use this thing has never left my wrist. I am an Active Duty Soldier with over 11 years experience in the Infantry and Firefighter/Medic for one of the busiest departments in the country. Needless to say, I have tested and abused this watch. He's been through hell and back, including military deployments in Iraq and Africa (annual deployments). It has been in burning homes, putting out severe internal fires in buildings, car fires, in the ocean on shallow dives, in rivers, on camping trips and countless other occurrences. This watch has seen it all in the last 6 years and is still working. I've read negative things about straps and other things but I have to say mine have been just great for me. Yes, I tore off a small strap. I contacted Suunto to possibly send me a new one, thinking it was such a small part that they could provide it for free. Well they wanted me to buy all the new belts which are about $60. I didn't want to buy a new pair of straps for this so I made my own out of 550 cord, the 550's have been running for about 4 years with no problems. The current top rating of this watch states that the strap is brittle, has dry rot and cracks. Guess I haven't changed my bracelets yet. 6 years later! Now they are thin and very worn, maybe it's time to change them, but I won't do it until they let me down. Battery life is good as long as you don't keep unnecessary features turned on all the time. For example, I don't need to know if the watch senses an approaching storm or a change in pressure. I turn it on when needed when I'm in the field, but as long as it's not off no chirp is needed. These things extend battery life. I change the batteries about 1-2 times a year, that's all. Overall I love this watch and will continue to wear it every day. I've had friends who bought them and felt the same way. I'm a little jealous when I see a new one, they look good when new and have jet black features, but I wouldn't trade my broken, scratched, battle-hardened one for anything. Just look at some of my photos. You can clearly see that I have shown no mercy to this matter. Now I'm abroad again. And I still wear it.
