Works like a skeg - watersports

I didn't really need a steering wheel, but I wanted the skeg to help with windy tracking. It does the job perfectly. I went kayaking over the weekend and even with the wind it went much better. The disadvantage of stars is that there is no spring holding them in the down position. At first I thought it was just missing and emailed the seller. I was told there is no spring in the kit. I found that I had to grab the oar and push it down. Once it's off, it stays on. This was installed on Old Town Loon 106. I made some settings for the installation. I wanted to save myself the hassle of threading the steering lines. I used a propane torch to heat the mounting pin, not the plastic block, just the pin. Then I was able to pull the pin out and drill a hole. I then used a screw to tighten it to the bracket. You can't see it in the photos, but I sealed the whole thing with RV/marine grade silicone sealant, which I already had.
