It takes some time to get used to the touch screen. Before purchasing, I dropped my watch and cracked the screen, and the screen protectors seem to hold it together and protect it from moisture. They are not indestructible. I managed to crack one of these but I think I would lose my watch completely if it didn't have a protector. They fog up a little, but not enough to be concerned.
