These rims are old friends of mine. The controller makes complete use of USB 3.0, with the sole limiting factor being the transfer speed of the underlying drive. The disk and USB-SATA III controller in newer models (500 GB to 1 TB) are manufactured separately, so you can use your own drive if you choose. This option for USB drive connection was frequently employed. has certain advantages: Disk Drive (SATA III, 6 Gb/s, 5400 RPM, 128 MB): WD Blue At the disk's beginning, the real read/write speed is around 125 MB/sec, and at its end, the speed drops to around 60 MB/sec. Excellent rubberized exterior. The car ride is relatively peaceful. USB 3.0 provides sufficient power, therefore no external power source is necessary. ConsThe native disk cannot be replaced with any other standard one 2.5" drive or SSD because the controller (adapter) from USB to SATA III is positioned directly on the disk, and it is still WD BLUE (and not RED, for example).
