It's well made, has a removable cover, is surprisingly cool to the touch and is generally comfortable to lie on. The smell is there but not strong. This is a light mix of plastic (like baby gel putty) with a touch of plasticine. I just bought a super firm mattress that is causing lower back pain so I wanted a mattress topper for more support for my back but this didn't work for me. Her body sinks into the topper, but it's actually a little hard. However, this would be ideal for those who need an overlay to cushion pressure points or provide some light padding. But if you need plush support (like I did to fill out the curve of my back) this isn't the type. Maybe I'm just too heavy for it (well over 200lbs), so someone more petite might have a different experience.
