At first I only used it for photos, not videos. Another thing is that I'm an ordinary everyday amateur and not a pixel scout. When I was looking for a new camera form factor, the quality of the end result was very important to me. So much so that I quickly settled on the Nikon J4. It was good but not suitable for my specific needs. So I switched to Sony. My first thought was Sony's E-mount Prime, the SE20F28, which as the name suggests is 20mm/2.8. However, the 30mm equivalent felt a bit wider and the reviews weren't all that impressive. While it would definitely help me in my quest for a small camera that can take great photos, this particular lens didn't meet my needs - a "pocket" lens with the ability to take great photos. Next I researched the SEL35F18 and then found my current gem. Decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did. I bought a 5100, the body only with this lens and I have no regrets. With this superior lens, the camera retains its compact form factor. While it's clearly not a (trousers) 'pocketable', it fits easily in a jacket pocket without sacrificing any unacceptable quality, which is exactly what I was looking for. essence for me. A good lens was ideal in terms of size and weight. The lens loves people, great for portraits. Focuses fairly quickly. Works great in low light. What I missed - I really wish the focus ring was knurled rather than rubberized. The bokeh seems to fall off after a certain distance short-sense - if form factor/size is important to you without sacrificing much quality I would highly recommend this lens. The cons wouldn't stop me from calling this a good lens for any casual photographer.
