Good, bad and ugly

So here's the thing. It's good that the filter works and I think it's great value for money. This is bad. First, note that I have never used a canister filter before. I needed this for temporary extra filtration in my aquarium after dosing to kill flatworms. The picture shows a whole bunch of plastic pipes and it's a bit unclear how they fit together and obviously many of them may not be needed depending on the shape/need of your tank. I ended up just using the hook on the inlet end and slipping the hose straight into the return tank. I've only had it running for a few hours so it was fine for my needs. I think the hoses could be a bit softer or more flexible - I can see where it can be difficult to place them for a long term install. The ugly part is that the instructions are crap - Chinese is pushed through a bad translator matrix. "Reduce water flow to avoid water, dirt or stains on impeller/drive magnet." "Suction cup for fixation" (i.e. suction cup). "Pull the buckle to take out the input and output discretion" Some of them are printed on the outside of the box. Why are these Chinese manufacturers so stupid? If I saw this on a store shelf with crap like that on the outside I would never buy it. Don't these idiots realize that they can find a teenager in China who is an immigrant child or whose first language is English and pay him/her a few hundred dollars to spend the day watching the product in action ? By reading instructions, then rewriting them to make sense, and ending up paying a hundredfold (or more) in upsells? And the last important tip. A number of users reported problems with its operation. You need to pump up the blue button on top to get enough water before plugging it in. It's a pain and doesn't work very well. The answer is simple - pour in some water before you start and you need very little pumping to make it work.
