Fans are smooth and quiet. It definitely cools my laptop down a few degrees and is all I was really looking for at this price point. I think the blue lighting below is fun? Totally unnecessary, but for some reason there aren't many cheap unlit laptop fans out there. They aren't bright enough to look childish or look too much like gaming gear. The downside is that there are two small ribs along the edge of the user-side top deck that can be folded back to prevent the laptop from sliding off when the rear legs are extended. They are about twice as long as they should be and are located just below where where your wrists rest on the laptop. This means that unless the bottom half of your laptop is an inch or more thick, there are plastic pins stuck right in your wrists. So they are useless and I keep them folded. I only lift my laptop onto the deck once an hour. Very small bug, but YMMV.
