I ordered 5 different boots to try on my grandson. All boots were good but this one was exceptional in my opinion. Waterproof. He's taller than the others so he can play in deeper snow. No gaps when tying, and yes, we prefer laces. Can squeeze them to this kid's slimmer legs if needed. The insole was soft but not too soft. Seems very warm. The soles have good lugs and seem to glide very well in the snow. This is our #1 pick. I'm just guessing they're a bit small, because the shoes in the box were half a size larger than ordered and the size is on the box. That half size difference was important
