Review on Faber-Castell Polychromos Artists' Color Pencils - Tin of 120 Colors by Denise Davis

That's great. My favorite quality of these pencils except.

You are amazing. My favorite thing about these crayons, besides how beautiful they are in rich colors, is that they are named after the true names of the pigments. So if you have painted before, you will be familiar with these colors. If you want to use mixed media, you can choose cadmium or ultramarine blue pencils and combine them with cadmium or ultramarine blue watercolor paint. Also, when mixing, you already know which colors work well to create other colors. I have a set of high quality Prismacolor pencils that I love, but I wanted to diversify my colors. After tons of research I decided to save up on this 120 piece set. Like Prismacolor, they have a deep, rich color. The difference is that much less pressure is required to reach this saturation. They are soft and easy to color, but also harder. It is hard to explain. Less color comes out of the pen, but it's just as rich as Prismacolor. This makes them last longer. Fingers don't hurt anymore! The wires change color like butter, but don't crumble. They are smooth and stable, glide on paper, are not dry and scratchy, not gummy and sticky. You keep a good point too. They do not conceal black contours with a cloudy layer of wax. They can be sharpened with a regular pencil sharpener, although they are a bit thicker than my other brands of crayons. You have a more substantial feel in your hand. If I've used another brand for a while and come back to this one, I immediately feel its tighter and more durable feel. They also come in a beautiful tin box with nice, strong and sturdy dividers. I thought nothing could be better than Prismacolor, but these Polychromos nailed it. I will use both sets together. They blend well, but the palette is different so you can add more to your palette.

Pros
  • EASY TO MIX - Oily smooth coat of paint. Polychromos pencils have oil-based leads that blend easily for layering effects, highlights and blends without worrying about the wax build-up that wax-based pencils create.
Cons
  • Out of style
