Worked great when we were away for the holidays and forgot to take out the kitchen waste. After the first day of use, there is no smell, or I can say that there is no smell. I don't have a range hood. I have odors when I cook, but they seem to take the smells away so they don't linger for days. I have aromatherapy aerosol dispensers and diffusers scattered around my house but they have an odor. I think I'll be buying more of these Fresh Wave gel jars to replace these. I haven't tried them in the bathroom yet.
