The description of this item suggests that it converts composite video to HD. You can only convert composite video to HDMI in the sense that you can connect a composite-only device to the HDMI port on a newer flat screen TV. The video doesn't get any better at all. The converter did what I asked of it. This allowed me to share the component connection for my Nintendo WII system and also connect my old Genesis system. Before that I had to turn off one or the other to reproduce one or the other. It does it quite well, it doesn't convert to HD in any case, no matter what. I'm not sure any of the cheaper brands work as well. Another disadvantage is that another socket is required for the connection. More wires.
