I don't know why, but the sponge got stuck between the filter entry slots and wouldn't let water through. Maybe it was an application error or maybe the sponge can't handle a filtration rate of over 300 gallons per hour? I'm really not sure what the problem is. I also use filter sponges on my snails and this has not happened with replacement sponges. I dont know. ------ I love these little pre-filter sponges! I recently introduced guppies to my 75 gallon aquarium to get my 2 5" and 6" RES to hunt but unfortunately they became friends instead so now I have to make sure they don't get in the canister filter to be sucked. I first added one of the mesh bags of filter material until I had the matching lid for it. At first I was concerned because the size of the Penn Plax 1200 canister seemed too small. But it fits! So I'm happy. The suction power is pretty good. As soon as I put it in the tank, a bunch of shit flew straight at him. So far so good. My turtles are messy too so having backups and spares was a plus! Will recommend and buy again!
